“If you look at the latest ABC and IRS numbers, print has been witnessing sustained and consistent growth. Overall, print has registered almost 5 per cent CAGR growth in circulation numbers in the last 10 years, while Hindi print has registered around 9 per cent growth during the same period, and the same is complemented by readership numbers recently announced by IRS.”

Despite the popularity of print, she further states that with such potential, large advertising categories – auto, education, lifestyle, FMCG, real estate, and BFSI – continue to use print to deliver performance. “These brands and advertisers use both print/ digital to meet their brand, marketing and media objectives.”

The most suitable example is a Dainik Jagran advertisement. This newspaper had received government ads worth over 100 crores between 2014-15 and 2018-19. During the same period, Dainik Bhaskar received ads worth 56 crores and 62 lakhs with Hindustan receiving ads worth 50 crores and 66 lakhs (similar to Punjab Kesari).

An advertisement in Amar Ujala would also be preferable since it had received 47.5 crores in government advertising. Besides these figures, readership growth has largely been driven by Hindi and regional players (IRS). Hence, advertising in Hindi newspapers has proven to be beneficial for a variety of reasons.
